5 Practical Tips for Maximizing Productivity and Peace in Business from Celebrity Hair Stylist “Uno”

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Brandon “Uno” Williams, the owner of Hair By Uno Studio Salon and sole creator and innovator of the patent-pending Perfect Platinum Pixie technique. This creative hairstylist splits his time between laying edges at his Atlanta, GA based salon and educating a community of fellow hairstylists on coloring, precision cutting, styling, and business growth.

With the holiday season upon us, we asked Uno to cut to the chase with his share his five top business tips for finishing the year strong in a productive and peaceful way.

  1. Be Selective with Your Circle

Environment can be stronger than willpower, so it is important to surround yourself with people on the level you wish to reach. In Uno’s own words, “You can’t learn how to make a million dollars from someone that doesn’t even make $50k.” You become what you consume. Even if you cannot physically be around people who are in alignment with your goals, you can always choose to improve your circle through getting a mentor, listening to podcasts, or even books and videos.

  1. Do What Makes YOU Happy

“People will always try to tell you what will work and what won’t work based on their experiences,” Uno began. “Sometimes, they are projecting their fears and insecurities onto you, which can be stifling and problematic to your psyche.” Have you ever felt like you were trying to live up to someone else’s expectation for what your success should be?

We often build businesses or brands because we want to share our unique qualities or services with the world. Once we get off the ground, we may feel shy about admitting what we truly want. Being a business owner give you the ability to define your own success. Build your business in a way that makes you happy and it will feel less like something you have to do and more like something you get to do.

  1. Research and Read

The average business owner reads only to master their craft while the advanced business owner works towards longevity by constantly learning and adapting to a changing world. “Learn how money, finance, and business work,” Uno advises. “If you don’t, you will never grow as much as you need to.”

It is a lot harder to win a game you don’t even know how to play and dangerous to expand without a solid foundation. Take the time to learn from people are already successful so you know the information is sound and relevant. From public libraries to paid seminars, and everything in between, there are endless opportunities for growth with resources available online and in person to fit your individual learning style.

  1. Build A Strong Team

We’ve all heard it before; teamwork makes the dream work. “You can’t do everything yourself, and you will drive yourself insane or have many unfinished projects because you never learned how to delegate responsibility,” Uno shared from his personal experiences.

While circumstances may require you start solo, to grow a thriving business, building a strong team is necessary. “Make sure your teammates know more than you do in whatever field they are helping you in.”

  1. Don’t Work for Money; Make Money Work for You

When you see money as something you must obtain to live, you attach an anxious energy to the idea of earning income. “Treat dollars as if they are employees. Use the money to make your life easier.” This idea puts money in the framework of a tool to be used.

“Don’t be scared to spend it! If you know how to make money, you can always figure out how to make more.” Be willing to invest in yourself and your business. Leverage your income to fine-tune your systems which can free up more time and increase your revenue. When you approach creating income with ease, the current of abundance flows more freely.
