Stimulus Checks
Stimulus checks were a financial lifeline for many during the Covid-19 pandemic, and now they’re back. In at least seven states, you and your family may qualify for a new stimulus check. This round of stimulus checks is not a fourth federal stimulus check, but rather a stimulus check sent by state governments that have passed legislation. Here are the states that are offering stimulus checks, as first reported by Fortune.
California
Stimulus check: $1,100
Stimulus Plan: Golden State Stimulus II
If you live in California, you could get a stimulus check of $1,100. Here’s how to qualify:
- You had a California adjusted gross income of up to $75,000 in 2020;
- You filed your 2020 taxes;
- You lived in California for at least half of 2020;
- You are a California resident on the date your stimulus check is paid;
- No one else claims you as a dependent.
Florida
Stimulus check: $1,000
Stimulus Plan: Florida’s Heroes Initiative
If you live in Florida, you could get a stimulus check of up to $1,000. Here’s how to qualify:
- First responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and others are eligible;
- This one-time stimulus check is intended to recognize their selfless sacrifice during the Covid-19 pandemic; and
- Teachers and principals also will be eligible to receive a one-time, $1,000 disaster relief payment.
Georgia
Stimulus check: $1,000
If you live in Georgia, you could get a stimulus check of up to $1,000. Here’s how to qualify:
- Teachers and principals are eligible to receive a one-time, $1,000 stimulus check; and
- This one-time stimulus check is intended to recognize their selfless sacrifice during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Maine
Stimulus check: $285
Stimulus Plan: Maine Disaster Relief Program
If you live in Maine, you could get a stimulus check of up to $285. Here’s how to qualify:
- You were a full year resident of Maine in 2020;
- You filed your 2020 Maine taxes by October 31, 2021;
- Your federal adjusted gross income (through employee pay) for 2020 tax is less than $150,000 if married filing jointly or if you’re a qualifying widow or widower; $112,500 if filing as head of household; or $75,000 if single or married filing separately; and
- During 2020, no one claimed you as a dependent.
Maryland
Stimulus check: $300 for individuals and $500 for families
Stimulus Plan: Maryland RELIEF Act of 2021
If you live in Maryland, you could be one of 400,000 Marylanders who will get a stimulus check of up to $300 for individuals and up to $500 for families. Here’s how to qualify:
- You are a Maryland resident and filed an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC);
- The income thresholds are as follows:
- $50,954 ($56,844 married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children;
- $47,440 ($53,330 married filing jointly) with two qualifying children;
- $41,756 ($47,646 married filing jointly) with one qualifying child; and
- $15,820 ($21,710 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children;
Michigan
Stimulus check: $1,000
Stimulus Plan: Child Care Stabilization Grant
If you live in Michigan, you could get a stimulus check of up to $285. Here’s how to qualify:
- You are a licensed child care provider, including a licensed child care center, family home and group home, tribal-based child care or Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) programs that also provide tuition-based child care;
- You can provide childcare service on the date of your application, or your service is closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic public emergency;
- This is a non-competitive grant for child care providers to help stabilize operations and support the health and safety of children and staff; and
- You can apply at www.michigan.gov/childcare.
New Mexico
Stimulus check: $750
If you live in New Mexico, you could get a stimulus check of up to $750. Here’s how to qualify:
- You didn’t qualify for federal pandemic stimulus payments;
- You didn’t receive a July 2021 state of New Mexico economic relief payment;
- You must be a New Mexico resident; and
- You must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license number, individual taxpayer identification number or Social security number.
Tennessee
Stimulus check: $1,000
If you live in Tennessee, you could get a stimulus check of up to $1,000. Here’s how to qualify:
- Full-time teachers can qualify for up to $1,000 of hazard pay; and
- Part-time teachers can qualify for up to $500 of hazard pay.
